The Absolutely Fine Print
Uphold’s fifth Mute, “For Word Or,” was recorded
by Muffy in the Abbxcess Bedroom during July 2000, and was scheduled to
air July 29th. While originally intended as a meditation on language,
it got somewhat sidetracked due to time limitations and a damanged left
hand. Hopefully, Tarzan won’t mind.
Generally speaking, the sources were recorded
from VCR and cassette 4-track, then assembled on the Diabolical LadyMac
for editing, altering, and mutilation. Track #5 is dedicated to Bernadette,
and was recorded during her quick January decline.
This CD is copyright 2000 DangerMuff Enterproses.
Feel free, however, to mutilate it as much as you like, according to the
golden rule: scoff unto others, as you would have them scoff from you.
In early 2000, I finally found out where to get those
Hindi movies I loved watching on TV so much. This sparked an interest
in Hindi, part of a general interest in language, and this all in turn
sparked "For Word Or," a Mute about alphabets, communication, and ideas.
Everything became more difficult, however, when
I broke a glass, needed stitches, and ended up moping around showing off
my bandage to everyone instead of working on the Mute. As well, there
just wasn't enough time...so "Serenade For Outpatients #5" ended up filling
the gaps (somewhat applicable in a Gestaltist way, since the most painful
thing about a pet's death -- at least for me -- is the inability to communicate
with the poor thing). Both Geri Halliwell and Mike Oldfield ended
up on here, along with clips from "The Adventures of Tarzan,"
"Mr. India," "Suparman" and "Vijay Path" and lots of extended, beat-y moments.
"I Cannot Be Played On Record Player 1" was inspired
by Douglas R. Hofstadter's "Godel, Escher, Bach."
