TRANSEXPOSE was
originally recorded as a “frequent mutilation” for CKMS (100.3 FM) and
broadcast on June 29th, 1998. It was conceived as one sixty minute
track (unfortunately split in half here) combining savaged versions of
old songs with some new, unreleased material. GREENman kindly contributed
much of what was used in the final mix. There are no rules for creating
these “mutes,” but it is not uncommon for them to contain lots & lots
of samples from other sources.
Therefore, TRANSEXPOSE owes a lot to the musicians and
filmmakers from whom a number of samples were stolen. If you like
figuring this stuff out, I won’t ruin the fun...but I would like to credit
Paula Gauthier’s short film “Which Is Scary,” extended samples from which
appear in parts II and VII.
The sources were recorded everywhere, and mixed by Muffy
in the Abbxcess bedroom, then burned to CD-R in CKMS’s Studio B.
It’s important to keep in mind that these are just one Muffy’s opinions;
generalizing to the X-dressing population based on what you hear on this
tape is probably a bad idea.
Special thanks to the usual good people: Mr. Bitchin’
and his Fabulous Digital Camera (for the cover & fun Abstract times)
Jim Dejong of DDT, all at Delirium for keeping me sane and clothed, all
at CKMS, Kevin Paisley of Mutant Cactus, all at Generation X, and the
fantastic Birdtown folks who know that staring, poking, and prodding are
things that stupid, inexperienced people do. Not us, right?
I was asked to create a "Frequent
Mutilation" for CKMS in a sort of guest slot, and this is what came
out: a single 60 minute exploration of the experience of crossdressing,
from good to bad to good again. The springboard was definitely Paula
Gauthier's incredible short film, "Which Is Scary," as
well as other samples from diverse sources (Billy Jack, "Come Back
To The Five And Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean," Marat/Sade, episodes
of "Cops," samples from songs by Nits, A Man Called Rainbo,
Teasearama, Sleeper, The Day The World Ended, Barbarella, Grand Hotel,
Bus Stop, Easy Rider and many more). The foundation for "Walking"
was one of the few midi experiments with a computer sequencer (others
appear on Mission Control, MUTE6). "Post-Surgery Adjustment"
originally appeared on The True Story Of Muffy St. Jacques in a
slightly different form.
It was unfortunate that much of what I culled was extremely
negative. I tried to start it off happy, get into the heavy stuff
in the middle, and then end happy again, but it was a real struggle, for
a lot of reasons. Otherwise, everything else about this CD just
fell together naturally, and it was good enough to stand alone as its
own release.
