"ALL OUR IDOLS"
Ah, what a glorious night, and a topic we've both thought a lot about. What makes an idol and idol, as opposed to an icon? What is the difference between idols in various communities (gay and straight, male and female, drag king and drag queen)? Is there such a thing as a non-tragic idol, like Madonna and Janet Jackson...and what kind of person goes for that sort of thing? Would you want your daughter worshipping the Spice Girls?
We also learned other important lessons. A caller informed us that a "fen" is actually a "boggy marsh" (AKA a "moggy barsh"), a question that we've been wondering about for weeks now. Another caller exposed a possible difference in idol choices between those who knew they were gay as children, and those who are just beginning to find out now.
Yes, an informative show! We'll need to think of more topics like this. Maybe "the influence of cryptography on modern diplomatic relations" or "the declining orbit of Jupiter's fifth moon."
Or...maybe not.
