Since both Venus and I crave the onset of summer, it was only natural for us to do a special show about Summertime, though it turned out the night was not exactly warm. That's why she brought the wine! Settling in with a record-breaking selection of summer songs (many which we didn't even play) we continued our tradition of fine, chat-heavy programming.
First off, we both noticed how many "summer" songs are written by Canadians. Is that because we endure so much winter, and we have traditionally enjoyed climbing onto a beach to thaw out the ice inside? It's hard to say...we northerners just seem so darn nostalgic about beaches and sun and Popsicles.
Next, Venus and I had a minor scuffle about whether or not Mama Cass choked on a ham sandwich. The argument was swiftly resolved when I channeled the ghost of Judy Garland, who told us that Mama Cass had in fact choked on a CHICKEN sandwich. Judy also wished everybody a happy Father's Day and said that being dead really sucked. On a related note, Venus was particularly unhappy with God, who seems so hypocritical and awful much of the time, and felt that Alanis could express these feelings in a song. Thanks, Alanis! And no thanks to you, Mr. God.
As usual we degenerated into slobbering idiots during the last half-hour, and we were also racing to play the last few songs we'd been longing to play, so we could leave for Toronto Pride with good consciences. See you in a month, Devil-Heads!
